Client Testimonials...

"My wife and I began homeschooling our son because he was performing ahead of his class and was not getting the attention from his teachers that he needed to grow. Our child is both advanced, and dyslexic. This can make knowing how to push him difficult. Part of homeschooling is a worry you are doing the right thing and that your child is developing as they should. In our initial evaluation we were able to get a true picture of where our child was in reference to his age and grade. As a parent, I am relieved to have someone to work with who is knowledgeable and can provide such a thorough evaluation. Our son enjoys reading but sometimes it can be difficult for him with a new subject. He is excited to work with Joy and I am excited to see him embrace a larger love of reading." -J. Burch
"I’ve worked with Joy in the school system and was always impressed with her work ethic and creativity. When my son needed a tutor, I had no doubt that she would be a great fit and help him improve his reading skills. He is 6 and can be challenging, especially if he is asked to read. Joy used a variety of tools and materials, including games, that engaged him well. He looked forward to working with her every session. She is so patient and kind, and was able to switch it up when my son “didn’t want you to do that!” In only 10 sessions he became more confident and improved his readings skills. I highly recommend her services." -V. Oldham
We were fortunate to find Joy through a friend for my son, who is 12 years old, has been testing low in his English knowledge. Joy has helped immensely through this struggle. Each lesson my son has enjoyed because Joy has made it fun to learn with games and a great teaching style. He has increased his testing to an 86 percentile from 55 percentile. I will definitely use Joy again for any English needs in the future! -A. Lyon
"My son really enjoyed working with Joy. She works so well with him and makes it fun. I can see tremendous improvement in his reading and writing abilities. He likes reading now and is so much more confident. I highly recommend her tutoring services." -S. Cox

FAQs
Does my child need tutoring?
Your child needs tutoring if you answer yes to one or more of the following:
-
they are behind in school
-
they've missed huge chunks of school
-
they struggle with/avoid reading
-
they don't understand what they read
-
they read in a stop-start manner
-
they struggle with "big" words
-
they struggle with small words (at, on, if, or, etc.)
-
they need someone to "sit with" them while working
-
they are frustrated reading/writing
-
their writing doesn't follow a logical sequence
-
they struggle to write sentence/paragraph
Will my child improve with regular teacher/school instruction?
Reading and writing are not natural skills. They do not develop on their own, and gaps will widen over time without intervention. These gaps must be addressed with one-on-one intensive instruction which is impossible in the classroom setting.
How many sessions will my child need?
Every child is an individual who learns at their own pace. The assessment gives a better understanding of your child's timeline for learning but cannot pinpoint a specific date. However, your child will begin to show progress within the first few sessions, and sessions are designed for maximum growth. We will discuss an approximate timeline during the assessment conference.
